Publication: Royce Publishers, 1943, Chicago

First edition thus. Originally published in 1923 by Boni & Liveright, Inc. This is an abridged and illustrated edition that was printed during World War II, in a small format, being only 4 1/2' tall. This pictorial wrappered book was produced for distribution to our armed forces and is uncommon today. Near fine in pictorial wrappers. In 1935, the movie titled THE FLORENTINE DAGGER, was produced with Robert Florey as the director and Tom Reed and Ben Hecht as screenwriters. Thriller about Casare Borgia, a young man who is tormented by his heritage as 'the last of the Borgias.' He tries to commit suicide to put an end to his impulse to kill. Advised by a psychiatrist to sublimate his fears and purge his madness, he writes a successful play about the Lucretia Borgia. He casts his "daughter" in the lead, only to come to fear that his leading lady, who has problems of her own - a mother horribly burned in a theatrical fire, an amorous stepfather who is found stabbed with a Florentine dagger - may be being taken over by the personality of Lucretia.
