First Edition.Cloth. xv., 160pp. Illustrated. Plates. Portraits.Foreword. Published by the Oklahoma State Bank of Ada, Oklahoma In Commemoration Of It's Fiftieth Anniversary, 1954. Presentation inscription by Jack T. Conn, President of The Oklahoma State Bank, and dated May 19, 1954. J. Hugh Biles first saw Ada in late July of 1900, and was, at the time of the publication of this book, Advertising Manager of the Ada Evening News. He details the early pioneering families and how in sixty-four years they have helped to build a modern city from an untamed wilderness. Ada is located in the heart of Chickasaw Nation, when the area was known as Indian Territory, and is named after Jeff Reed's daughter, named Ada. The first railroad came to Ada in 1900, and later following statehood in 1907, additional railroads were built through the town, which quickly became one of the major freight points in the southeastern section of the state. Six Guns 209 says "Chapter 8 deals largely with the hanging of Jim Miller, Joe Allen, Jesse West, and B. B. Burrell." Very good in dust jacket with light wear to spine ends and corners.
