The Brotherhood Of The Seven Kings.

by L.T. And Robert Eustace. Meade

Publication: Ward Lock & Co, Limited, 1899, London

First edition. Illustrated by Sidney Paget. Original navy blue cloth over beveled boards, titles and illustrations on front cover and spine in gold gilt, Lightly rubbed at spine ends, else a near fine, bright copy of a rare Queen's Quorum selection. All plates present as called for. Housed in a blue cloth slip case with titles stamped in gold gilt on a blue leather label affixed to the spine. The Brotherhood Of The Seven Kings was adapted into a play by Robert Eustace and Max Elgin, and produced by South Shields in County Durham. Queen's Quorum says "...marks the earliest appearance of a female felon in a series of short stories. In ten connected tales Madame Koluchy, as the guiding genius of a sinister secret society, as "the brain that has conceived and the body that has executed some of the most malignant designs against mankind that the history of the world has ever known," proves herself "the compleat criminal": kidnapper, blackmailer, bank robber, and murderer...although it should be noted that Madame Koluchy's attempts at murder were consistently foiled by a young scientist-detective named Norman Head." An attractive copy of a scarce book.
