Other works by HERBERT CADETT

Publication: Sands & Company, 1900, London

First edition. 12mo. Color pictorial cloth, 205 [3] pp., titles stamped in white on the front cover and in gilt on the spine. This appears to be the first male journalist-detective in mystery fiction. Queen points out that the book is so rare that it has never been mentioned in any book or article about detective fiction. The detective in this book is Beverley Gretton and in the first tale in this book, he makes use of "identification by fingerprints" anticipating by seven years, the accepted first use in R. Austin Freeman's novel. The Red Thumb Mark.

A very good copy of an excessively rare book that is housed in a two-tone quarter leather and marbled paper over boards clamshell case with raised bands and titles stamped in gilt on a leather spine label.
