Publication: The Kaleidograph Press, 1936, Dallas, Texas

First Edition. 8vo. Original Green Cloth, gold stamping on front cover and spine, 81 pp., frontis. [photograph of four Texas Rangers], foreword, illustrated. This unique book is made up of entries in the diary and scrapbook of Alonzo Van Oden, of the Texas Rangers, Company D, Frontier Battalion, dating from March, 1891, when he entered the service. So far as research and inquiry have revealed, this is the only diary and scrapbook ever kept by a member of the Ranger force. Ranger Oden was a native Texan, and a member of Texas' oldest constabulary force. Captain John R. Hughes, in whose company Ranger Oden served, is pictured in the frontispiece among the early Rangers. Hughes was eighty years of age when this book was published. Six Guns 1174 says, "Scarce." "This small book is composed of short sketches about various subjects, among them one on Bass Outlaw and another on the killing of John Selman." Some very light wear to corners and spine ends. Very good+. Inscribed by the author on front free-endpaper.
