Publication: Privately printed, n d (1909), Denver
First edition. 8vo. Decorated wrappers, 74 pp., illustrated. Six Guns 2177 says "Rare." "An amateurish story about Allen Dowmen, the outlaw." Written by the familiar "Face on the bar-room floor" and daughter of the silver baron, Jim Tabor. After committing a murder and stealing a mule in Denver, Downen fled to San Francisico, where he commits several robberies. He is caught and sent to San Quentin Prison in 1874 where he works his way up to Laundry Trustee, and then escapes wearing the warden’s uniform. Downen became notorious in Denver as the "Sheridan Boulevard Bandit," and "The Sand Creek Road Bandit." Numerous crimes, prison stints, flirtations with women, and courtroom scenes finally end with Downen in the Canon City Penitentiary serving a life sentence. Of note is the fact that Six Guns 2177 spells the name Allen Dowmen; Howes T spells the name Allen Downman; and text within Tabor's book spells the name Downen. Tiny closed tear and nick to top edge of front cover, else a very good copy Six Guns calls "rare."
