First edition. 12mo. Original printed wrappers, 133 pp., preface. Dary's Kanzana 211 says "This work contains a collection of eighteen letters written by Prentis to the Daily Champion at Atchison. Prentis traveled by rail over the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Line from Atchison to Santa Fe, New Mexico. He traveled by stage into Old Mexico. He served in the military until the end of the Civil War. Capt. Henry King induced Prentis to come to Topeka in 1869, where he worked on the Record ..." Six Guns 1761 says "Tells of some of the tough cow towns in Kansas, among them Newton and Wichita." Herd 1835 says "Scarce." Spine reinforced with cloth. rear cover missing, former owner's name stamp at top of front cover, on the title pages, and at top of page 5, old water stain to the front cover, and with small chips to cover, a few preliminary pages, and to fore-edge of rear page. Overall a good to very good copy. This is a rare item as nothing is listed in auction records, Goodspeed listed a copy in 1940, and Bob McCubbin had a copy in his collection. This is our second copy in several years. Housed in a leatherette clamshell case with titles stamped on front cover and spine.
