Publication: Compiled by the South Dakota State Historical Society and the Board of Cultural Preservation, 1982, Pierre, South Dakota

First edition. 8vo. Green cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, xvi, 470 pp., frontispiece, about the author, introduction, illustrated mostly from photographs, portraits, index. As the South Dakota State Historical Society celebrated its 120th year, the South Dakota State Library digitized all 41 volumes of the South Dakota Historical Collections. From 1902 to 1982, this series was published biennially by the Department of History (now the South Dakota State Historical Society) as part of its mission to collect, preserve, and make accessible the history of the state. Devoted solely to South Dakota, there are essays on the autobiography of Mary C. Collins, a missionary to the Western Sioux; the journal of Charles LeRaye, pp. 67 - 191 (later proven to be fraudulent); a history of the Hot Springs Health Resort; and a Scandinavian immigrant experience in Grant County. Fine, bright, tight copy.
