First edition thus. The pop-ups are in perfect working order. Manufactured in Czechoslovakia under the direction of Kubasta, one of the greatest of 20th-century artists of the moveable book [nowadays known as "paper engineers"], this is one of his most impressive creations. The book is a 8" x 10 1/4" cloth-top-hinged cardboard folder, resembling a game board in construction, illustrated front and back with Kubasta's colorful drawings of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on the front cover, and with the raised arms of the Seven Dwarfs saluting with various objects a distant castle on the back panel. The front illustration has moveable parts. There are sixteen pages, each complete with a pop-up pertaining to the story or a moveable tab to animate a portion of the story. Eight intricately designed, full-color pop-ups of portions of the fairy tale. In design, construction & illustation, this is one of the most impressive pop-ups since Meggendorffer. Light rubbing to the top-edge of cloth, else near fine copy.
