Former owner's neat embossed name stamp at bottom of half title page, light wear to spine ends, else a very good copy in dust jacket lightly sunned on the spine, light wear to head of spine and corners, with small chips and closed tears to the extremities. Volume II: Two-tone cloth, maps on front and rear endpapers, [6], 859 -1731 pp., author's note, illustrated by William Barss, pink top edges. Former owner's neat embossed name stamp at bottom of the half title page, light wear to spine ends, else a very good copy in dust jacket lightly sunned on the spine, small chip to head of spine, with small chips and closed tears to the corners and extremities. Laid-in is a copy of an article about Madison Cooper and this book by Carol Dawson taken from the Texas Monthly magazine of November, 2000. Story is set in Waco, Texas and is in part the story of two black servants, a boy and a girl taken through adulthood, and the white Lipscomb dynasty they served. Epic novel about life in a small town in Texas. When it was published its thinly disguised characters scandalized some families in Waco, Texas. One of Greene's 50 Best Books On Texas. A. C. Greene says "... it is thought to be the longest novel in book form ever published in the English language."
