Publication: Privately printed for the author, 1878, Philadelphia

First edition. 8vo. Pictorial wrappers, 32 pp., double column, illustrated from drawings, tables, and a likeness of Dr. J. H. Schenck. Dr. Schenck's business was headquartered at the North-East corner of Sixth and Arch Streets in Philadelphia. The building is pictured on the front cover of the wrapper. He produced pills, syrups and tonics that cured many maladies such as his Mandrake pills are good for all bilious consumption, his Sea-weed tonic cures indigestion, his Pulmonic syrup cures consumption, and many more examples of the healing power of his medicines. In 1875 he published a story titled "The Wild Ranger Of Santa Fe" that also included information on his many health remedies. It was said of the story by a noted biographer : Herd 2019 says "Very rare." "Historically, this is a worthless little pamphlet, but it is a collector's item because of its rarity. Written as fact, it is no doubt fiction and an original means of advertising by a doctor who made pills and cough syrup." Tiny nicks, chips and closed tears to the fore-edges else a good copy.
