8" x 10-1/4" oblong pictorial front wrapper that features an image of the harbor with steamships. No pagination. 52pp. to include wrappers. Brief description of San Francisco to include its beginning in the summer of 1776, the war with Mexico, the discovery of gold, five devastating fires et. al. Profusely illustrated throughout with sepia-colored photographs and accompanying text. Photos include a front view of the Ferry Building, a bird's-eye view of San Francisco, street views, flower vendors, the Hearst Building, commercial buildings, banks, hotels, Chinatown, double page panoramic view of San Francisco at the center, public buildings, Cliff House and Seal Rocks, the very crowed beach, a Japanese Tea Garden, bird's-eye view of Oakland, et. al. Also included is a "Topography of San Francisco peninsula and surrounding country." Picture on front wrapper has a 2-1/2" closed tear at the top with a 1-3/4" piece of tape holding a vertical closed tear in the same area. Light to moderate soiling and wear to over-sized wrappers and on some pages.
