Robert Elliott was a contractor supplying the United States Army in its attempts to subdue Native American tribes in the Northwest Territory in the late 18th century. Elliott was killed by hostile Indians on October 6, 1794, as he attempted to supply the garrison at Fort Recovery, under orders from Gen. Anthony Wayne. His contract stipulated that he would be supplied with a military escort when his orders required him to pass through hostile territory. Capt. Jonathan Peirce in command of Fort Washington was unable to provide said escort, and Elliott was killed a few miles of into his journey. Here his widow, Ann Elliott, petitions for government aid on behalf of herself and her 10 children. Very good copy.
