The accounts of Pretty Shield, medicine woman of the Crows and wife of the Crow scout Goes Ahead, who scouted for the 7th Cavalry June 22-25, 1876 and was at the Little Big Horn. Includes information on the crow culture before reservation life, spiritual beliefs, ceremonies and medicine, profound changes brought by U.S. expansion onto the Northern Plains, etc. This is the first published account to state that Custer was killed attempting to cross the Little Big Horn River, as was his flag bearer and the interpreter Mitch Boyer. With valuable material on the activities of the Crow scouts.

Fine copy in the elusive, lightly rubbed and price-clipped dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends, two tiny holes at lower spine panel, light wear to the spine ends, corners and and extremities. A scarce title and even harder to find in the elusive dust jacket. A difficult title to find in the first edition.
