Lengthy introduction by C.L. Sonnichsen. This collection of O. W. Williams' writings gives an excellent first-hand account of life and conditions on the West Texas and New Mexican frontier in the late 1800's. Brought together for the first time, the essential writings in their proper relation and context, Williams' miscellaneous pieces become a historical contribution of importance. He worked in the lower reaches of the Big Bend during that eventful period of 1877-1902 and from his field notes and diary he was able later to write perhaps the most dependable first-hand account of the period. LOWMAN 210 -"A delight to the soul and a light to the inquiring mind. No better picture of the most colorful era in early Texas...As if that were not enough, the book was designed by that master typographer, Carl Hertzog." -R. Henderson Shuffler. Fine in dust jacket.
