Seeley recounts reminiscences of the Santa Fe Trail, the development of La Junta and surrounding communities, prominent citizens who contributed to the growth of the area, historical development of the area, and a long section on Bent's Fort, one of the most significant trading posts on the Santa Fe Trail, which served as a major center of trade between American and Native peoples during the 1830s and 1840s.
