16 x 24 cm [6 1/4" x 9 1/2"] photographic print. Title is written on the verso in blue pencil. Black line on photograph suggest that it was to be cropped for publication? The photographer is not identified. Erwin Smith shot some similar images of cattle and cowboys at the Spur Ranch, but we have been unable to find this specific image. In 1879, M. M. Hall established the Spur brand, using it on a herd of cattle he located near Soldier's Mount in Dickens County, Texas. He sold his Dickens County interests to the Espuela Land and Cattle Company in 1882. The 243,000 acre ranch was sold to Svante M. Swenson and Sons in 1907. The last cattle wearing the Spur brand were moved from the ranch in 1915. See Handbook of Texas. Very good condition.
