Other works by R.C. (PHOTOGRAPHER) RAWLINGS

Publication: ca 1898, Columbus, Kansas

10" x 12" photograph album created of thick black construction paper with a 6"x 8" photograph attached to front cover as well as the title, "Photographs." album houses 16 silver gel photographs (including photo attached to front cover) measuring 6" x 8" each, attached directly to construction paper leafs and identified in the negative. Images include the train station, court house, opera house, college, Middaugh Hotel (which closed as a hotel in 1899 so album pre-dates that), Wright's Dry Goods, two photos of the town square, the brick and tile works, two residences plus four birds-eye-views from the courthouse tower. Previous cataloger has identified the photographer as R.C. Rawlings who served as mayor of Chanute, Kansas, from 1897-1898 and reportedly traveled to Africa pursuing his hobby of photography. Bumping to corners of album covers and appears that someone has attempted to attach portions of spine with glue. A wonderful collection of photographs.
