9 1/2" x 13 3/4" in half-calf over black pebbled cloth on beveled boards. Morehouse post-binder with black enamel brass screw posts at gutter margin and silk moire endpapers. [50] pp. 207 tipped-in silver gelatin, albumen, and silver print photographs, sized from 2" round or oval-shaped, up to 3 1/2" x 5 1/2," many carefully die-cut into shapes and then mounted, most artfully arranged. This photo album chronicles the adventures of a Seattle Edwardian family during the first decade of the 20th Century, traveling by train, on the side-wheel steamship Sehome, and in their Brass Era Jeffery Co. Rambler touring car. The album opens with several views of unidentified logging operation including holding pond and massive log over 7 feet in diameter, followed by an extended series of views of sites in and around Mount Rainier. There are views of Sluiskin Falls, the government road to Longmire, Narada Falls, Myrtle Falls with Mt. Rainier towering in the background, along with views of their tent camp at Indian Henry’s offering stunning views of of the Park. Also included are photos of the Rambler and other vehicles driving into the park, the view of Glacier Island, climbing on Mount Rainier, Panorama Point, the Cowlitz Glacier, and several of women mountaineers in contemporary garb, sliding down the glacier, and views of Mt. Rainier from Mazama Ridge. Twelve of the photographs are of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific focusing on the design of the long pool with short waterfalls along Rainier Vista, with views of the YWCA Building, Agricultural Building, Alaska Building, the Utah State Building, and others. Several of the albumen photos show the family boating, camping, and fishing along the Puget Sound, with others of women on bicycles, and even Native American women in Western dress in Tacoma. Scuffing to covers and to spine along with wear to corners and minor chipping to head and foot of spine, showing minor loss revealing nickel plated spine. Very good. An exceptional photo album documenting a Seattle family's automobile excursions to Mount Rainier National Park.
