Preface, lengthy, detailed index. One of the great military careers of the 19th century. A West Point graduate of 1853, Sheridan's career spanned 35 years, ending as a 4-star General. He saw service in Oregon from the mid 1850's to 1861; then went east to serve in the Union Army, emerging a Major General and a famous cavalry officer. Sheridan directed much of the military operations against hostile plains Indians. From the late 1860's through the mid 1880's. Professional reinforcement of front inner hinge of Volume 1. Some minor very light edgewear to both volumes. Near fine. Seldom offered in this full calf binding...especially in this condition, protected in a slipcase with leather label on spine.
