Cloth, maps on front and rear endpapers, 197 pp., illustrated, notes, bibliography, index. Biography of Bill Mitchell, who became an outlaw after a bitter family feud culminated in murder in Hood County, Texas, in 1886. Following the execution of his father, Cooney Mitchell, for the earlier killing of a member of the Truitt family, Bill avenged the family conflict by murdering James Truitt. He subsequently fled under assumed names, including Baldy Russell, and spent decades evading the law while establishing a family and living in relative obscurity across Texas and New Mexico. A detailed and thoroughly researched account of the Mitchell-Truitt feud in New Mexico.
Fine bright copy in dust jacket.
