Original Casekeeper Box, used in the game of Faro by an assistant to the Dealer, who records each card dealt by the dealer using the spindles and sliding buttons adjacent to each respective card, to the benefit of those betting on what is the next card to be dealt in the single deck that is used. It is a major part of what made Faro the most popular gambling game...far greater than Poker. Box is constructed of a dark, hard wood, reinforced with a thin brass strip at all external edges. Internally all parts appear to be original...Brass rods, dark wooden buttons, and original graphics depicting each card, Ace of Spades through King of Spades. The two halves of the box are attached securely with 3 brass hinges. A great relic from the most famous Gambling Game in the Old West. Handsome, all-original construction.
