First U. S. edition. Originally published in the U.K. as Dead Man's Shoes. Light evidence of tape residue on front and rear pastedown sheets, former owner's inked name on front pastedown sheet (mostly covered by the flap), else a very good copy in dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends. When an orphan dies in the little resort town of Calbay, Mr. Clunk is retained by the pub owner who’d employed the youth. There are things going on in Calbay that will lead to more deaths, Clunk thinks, so he sends his Mr Hopley to spend some time among the residents. Hopley is sure that Clunk will find some way to profit from the situation, but as the body count rises, he's not sure what he's doing there at all. A Crime Club Mystery.
