Title and Author in gilt on front and spine. 244pp. Frontispiece portrait of Hamilton, portrait of Washakie, and 6 full-page illustrations by Charles M. Russell. At the age of 20, Hamilton went West in 1842 with a fur-trade expedition led by Bill Williams and spent the next several years trapping in the Southwest and the Rockies, with many interesting and exciting experiences among the Indians, trappers, and traders. Hamilton went further West, becoming involved with Indian fighting in California and Oregon. "Bill Hamilton was noted for his ability as a sign-talker. He also tells some mighty fine stories."--Graff 1759. One of the first works illustrated by Russell. Some very slight sunning to spine and very light rubbing to corners and spine. Previous owners name and date neatly written on front free-endpaper. Very good-near fine condition. Protected in custom slipcase.
