First edition. 8vo. Pictorial wrappers, 122 pp., illustrated. Strong came to Texas after the Civil War and participated in many of the famous Indian campaigns of the 1870s, He served as a scout for Col. Ranald Mackenzie in several campaigns, including the Red River War, which he relates in some detail. Strong also describes buffalo hunting operations and the capture of Dot Babb and other pioneers. A detailed local history of Jacksboro and Weatherford is provided along with material on outlaws. Six Guns 2159 says, "Scarce." "Has some material on the Benders and on early-day lawlessness in Texas. The author gives quite an account of the outlaw career of one Joe Horner, who later turned up in Wyoming as Frank Canton." Some light wear to edges and corners. Very good copy. Laid-in is a stiff promotional card (5.5" x 8.5") with a full-length photographic portrait of Captain Henry W. Strong, similar to the image on the front wrapper...not a true photograph. Card has minor damage to the edge of the upper left corner, not affecting image, else near fine.
