First edition. 8vo. Color, pictorial stiff wrappers, 72 pp., introduction, illustrated mostly from photographs, maps, frontispiece, references, index. The story of those mines located on the eastern slope of the great Sierra Nevada and the arid stretches of the Inyo Mountains. After the first frenetic rush of 1849 played out, miners drifted back and in 1857 the mining activity of the eastern Sierra started, to continue until the present day. Included are stories of mystery mines, such as the Lost Gunsight, over toward Death Valley, and of the Lost Cement Mine of the Mammoth Lake Region. Directions are clearly given to allow the present-day prospector of the history lode to locate these century-old mines. Former owner's inked name and stamped address on the half title page else a very good copy.
