Publication: Allison & Busby, 2003, London

First edition. Fine in fine dust jacket. Peter Maxwell's school is having it's four-year Ofsted Inspection. One of the female teachers, Sally Meninger, is seen out in a local nightspot with Inspector Alan Whiting. When he is found murdered a few days later, Maxwell can't help but notice that she is not as distraught as might be expected. Then Maxwell sees her with his Headteacher, James Diamond. Events move quickly and Diamond is arrested on suspicion of the murder of Whiting. Maxwell realizes that something is not quite right. With the help of his inside informant, DS Jacquie Carpenter, Maxwell sets out to prove that his colleague is innocent.
