First edition. 8vo. Brown cloth, titles stamped in black on the front cover, tan front and rear endpapers, 127 pp., foreword, illustrated, plates, portrait. Eberstadt 106:199b says "McKay joined the 'Department of the Missouri' in 1869, at that time comprising the states of Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, New Mexico and the Indian Territory, with General Sheridan as the Commanding Officer. His narrative covers a period of six years on the plains, among the soldiers, pioneers and Indians." Graff 2618 says "Detailed pictures of life at army posts in New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, etc. after the Civil War." Excellent reading. Near fine, bright, tight copy.
