Nickell Magazine Vol. VI. No. 6. December, 1896. First edition. 9 1/4" x 6 1/4" in pictorial wrappers showing a D. F. Barry photograph of Rain-In-The-Face on front wrapper printed in red ink. [4], 322-384, [12] pp. Illustrations. Pages 328-339 offer a 12-page article entitled, "Little Big Horn," by W. Kent Thomas with numerous photographs throughout. This was a highly contentious article as it presents claims that Rain-In-The-Face, after drinking "firewater," told through an interpreter his account of the Battle of the Little Bighorn and incidents that had occurred in the two years preceding the battle. "With great deliberation and much gesticulation, Rain told his version of the incident in question, and much to our surprise he continued on and related his version of the Custer Massacre." He claims to have killed Tom Custer in the battle, and cut-out his heart, eating part of it, as revenge for previous personal offenses. This article was not well received by many Custer scholars and historians. Light soiling throughout and with chipping and wear along with a few cellophane tape repairs to front wrapper. Very scarce.
