First edition. 8vo. Cloth, 284 pp., illustrated, folding map. Warren A. Ferris joined the American Fur Company in 1830, at the age of 19. For the next 6 years he trapped throughout the Rockies. Ferris kept a journal which was published serially in the Western Literary Messenger from July 13, 1842 to May 18, 1844. The journal, as presented here, is edited by J. Cecil Alter. An excellent account of this important period in fur trade history. "This is a top notch first hand account by a literate Mountain Man who went west in 1830 and visited the Yellowstone region."---Camille E. Cazedessus II. A fine copy without dust jacket, as issued.
