Greene calls Warren Ferris, "the most underappreciated figure in Dallas history." But Ferris has more than just regional significance, for his story actually encompasses three arenas; the Niagra Frontier of western New York, the fur trading country of the Rocky Mountains, and frontier northeast Texas during the years of the Republic. Before coming to Texas in 1837, he worked as a trapper and fur trader in the Rocky Mountains for six years. While there he maintained a daily journal of his adventures and it was later published as LIFE IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS, accompanied by a map he drew from memory, that provided a picture of a trapper and Indian life in the 1830s. Ferris later surveyed and determined the line of streets and roads that shaped Dallas and the county. Fine in dust jacket.
