First edition. 8vo. Inked gift inscription by the author on the front free fly leaf. Cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, viii, 135 pp., preface, foreword, introduction, bibliography, acknowledgments. Historical novel with the Foreword by John Graves. Juana Cavasos, born in the Canary Islands of Spanish and Italian parents, came with them in 1827 to join the paternal grandfather, Don Narciso Cavasos, who had received a large land grant near Matamoros, Mexico. She was captured by Comanches at age 18 while visiting in Texas and was a captive three years. Scarce in this first edition. Light foxing to the front and rear endpapers and to the front and rear flap folds else very good in dust jacket with a small scrape to head of spine. light wear to the foot of spine and corners.
