On reverse of title page is a hand-drawn Guide Map of the Mammoth Cave by Hovey. Opposite the map is a detailed key. Offers detailed descriptions and information about 4 hiking routes through the cave. Route I: Echo River, Pits and Domes; Route II: Olive’s Bower, Star Chamber, and Gothic Avenue; Route III: From the Star Chamber in the main cave to Violet City; and Route IV: To the Maelstrom and to Hovey’s Cathedral. Prior to discussing each route, there is a hand-drawn map of that route showing not only the path but points of interest. Numerous photographs throughout include pictures of The Chimes, the Marble Temple, a tour guide, "Old Arm Chair," a marriage ceremony taking place in the Gothic Chapel, Echo River, the Banquet Hall, etc. A thorough and interesting guide with interesting photographs.
