First Edition. Large Quarto. Blue Cloth. XXV, 533pp. Over 160 Illustrations, primarily from old photographs. 13 Maps. A rare and important history of all military organizations of Colorado. Begins with their role in a few battles in the Civil War, but the problems with hostile Indians during that same period are detailed here. The battle at Sand Creek, Colonel Chivington's report of the battle, the territorial militia, and the 1st Colorado Infantry receive much attention here. Also includes the Indian War of 1868, the Meeker Massacre, the Ute campaigns of 1879, the Leadville Strikes of 1880, and the White River Expedition against the Utes in 1887. In addition, various later strikes, the Spanish-American War, and subsequent World Wars are also covered here. Some very slight rubbing to edges and a few minor spots on covers, else an uncommonly clean, tight, attractive copy of this important military history. Near fine.
