Professional Paper No. 42. Department of the Interior United States Geological Survey. 12" x 9" in tan printed wrappers. 295 pp. 24 plates. 78 figures. Contents. Illustrations. Index. "The geological problem in this district is one that could not have been solved except by a trained petrographer, since the igneous rocks that carry the vein deposits have been largely covered by practically barren flows of more recent eruptives; hence the very careful and thorough study of the district made by Mr. Spurr (Josiah Edward Spurr) can hardly fail to be of great practical value to the miner, as well as of scientific interest to the student of ore deposits." Describes the general geology, the geologic structure, the character, occurrence, and relations of igneous rocks, mineral veins, and deposits of gold and silver ores, the origin of the mineral veins, the economic developments, and the physiographic features of the area. Spine chipped and fragile along with chips missing to head and toe of panels at spine edge and light wear to the extremities. Interior is near fine. Very thorough and interesting report.
