Publication: University of Oklahoma Press, 1956, Norman
First edition. 8vo. Cloth, xv [blank], 216 pp., 8 plates, map, preface, index. Established in 1867 on the Clear Fork of the Brazos, Ft. Griffin was an important post in the U.S. Army's pursuit of Comanche and Kiowa Indians on the "Llano Estacado". Buffalo hunters, and later the cowboys trailing herds up the Western Cattle Trail are also an important part of Ft. Griffin's relatively short, but vital history. Texas scholar, Carl Coke Rister, has gathered much first-hand, source material in researching the history of this colorful post on the Texas Frontier. A fine copy in lightly rubbed dust jacket.
