Fog Off Weymouth

Henrietta Clandon [Pseudonym Of John George Haslette Vahey]

Publication: Geoffrey Bles, 1938, London

First edition. Spine lettering is readable but white ink has flexed off some of the letters, while white title lettering on front cover is in fine condition, else a near fine, tight copy in dust jacket with rear cover lightly soiled, with minor wear to the spine ends, corners and extremities. The final novel (of seven) written by Vahey (1881-1938) as Henrietta Clandon, a pseudonym he used exclusively while writing for Geoffrey Bles. A novel in which Penny and Vincent Mercer, both authors, encounter international espionage, "but never clearly understood, nor did the reader, which characters were Special Branch or Scotland Yard, or who might be Nazi or Russian agents. Penny was captured but escaped by "coshing" one of the gang and sending a coded message to Vince" (Barnett, Colleen. Mystery Women: An Encyclopedia of Leading Women Characters in Mystery Fiction, Vol.1). Scarce; OCLC notes a scant 4 holdings (BL, Oxford, Trinity Coll.Dublin, Natl.Lib. of Scotland
