First U.S. edition. Signed on a 2 1/2" x 4" label and laid-in as C. H. Coles, Adelaide Manning, and Manning Coles. An interesting group of signatures as Adelaide Manning and C. H. Coles, together form the pseudonym of Manning Coles. Fine in dust jacket with minor wear to spine ends, extremities, and two tiny closed tears to the top edge of the rear cover. The story of an English spy in Germany during WWI that introduces Tommy Hambledon, of the British Intelligence Service. Due to the war Tommy suffers from amnesia, but that doesn't stop his uncanny ability to solve espionage and intrigue. Believed to be based upon the author's experiences during WWI and the period prior to the advent of WWII. An attractive copy of a Haycraft/Queen Cornerstone title.
