Publication: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1955, New York

First edition. 8vo. Fine in dust jacket with minor wear to the spine ends. In this book, Santee writes of his boyhood in a little Iowa town, his reminiscences centering around the various dogs he knew in those long distant days. This is a very special copy in that Santee has drawn a color picture on the front free fly leaf and provided a gift inscription "For J. B. Rankin" dated Sept. 17/58, Arden, Delaware [Santee's home at the time] and signed "All good wishes, Ross." Additionally all of the remaining illustrations have been colored in with water colors and a few extra color drawings have been added by Santee for a grand total of 31 water colored illustrations. Every story in this book is a tale about a dog, especially when the author was a youngster. Housed in a leatherette clamshell case with titles stamped in gilt on the spine.
