Information on topographical location of Michigan to include lakes, depth of lakes, periodic rise and fall of water in the lakes, rivers, the natural woods of Michigan, soils, the copper mines of Lake Superior, etc.; the history of Detroit to include detailed information on various churches and religious societies, public buildings, public offices, various courts, schools, etc.; a list of state and municipal officers, constables, fire department personnel, wardens, mayors, etc. This is followed by an alphabetical directory of names, occupations and locations of residents and businesses in Detroit in 1846. Contains 60 pages of interesting advertising to include among them: railroads, a "steamboat finisher," bookbinders, cabinet makers, hotels and saw mills with line cut illustrations. Light to moderate foxing, previous owner's inked name and date of acquisition, else a very good copy. The inked name of George R. Griswold appears on the front pastedown sheet. Griswold was the Lieutenant Governor of Michigan from 1853 to 1854.
