A story of leaving West Virginia in 1884 and going on to South Dakota to become a cowman until he sold out and left the state in 1901. Hamilton provides observations about ranching, stock handling, hunting, weather, soil, wildlife, and the landscape. An interesting story that reads well. Also contained in this volume is "First Journey to North America in the Years 1822 to 1824 by Paul Wilhelm, Duke of Wuerttemberg." Story is translated from the German. Front free fly leaf missing and front spine loose else a good copy.
