Publication: Privately photographed, 1910 - 1920, Cody, 1910, 1920

7 1/8" x 11 1/2" leather, cord-tied photograph album, n. p. [51 pp.], with 250 black and white photographs of varying sizes mounted on both sides of all pages. Most photographs are identified and captioned and include 12 photographs (6 1/2" x 4 3/4") by the photographer Fay Jessie Hiscock of Cody, Wyoming. The album was kept by the Scott and Mattie Lyall family of Cody, Wyoming. Apparently Scott was a first generation American immigrant from Canada who married Mattie (or Martha) Nordquist in Big Horn County, Wyoming in 1904. According to the inscription on one of the 1st photographs "Cott and Mattie were Managers of the Coe Cattle Ranch in 1911, the Carter Ranch Cody, Wyo. The Buffalo Bill Ranch, W.R. Coe bought, 1910 and Lease." Another photograph is labeled "Front of Carter Ranch House (1911) Bill Cody's Ranch which Coe took over in 1911." In 1879, the 3000 head of cattle which Jim Carter trailed from Oregon formed the nucleus of the Carter Ranch along the South Fork of the Stinking Water. The family continued to live in the Cody area on what was called Irma Flat and operated an early dude ranch called the P-P in the Jim Creek Heights. Also there are seven photographs of Scott and Matties 1913-1914 time on the Flathead Reservation where they appear to have lived in a canvas tent and Scott worked as a "time and cost keeper" on a Reclamation Bureau project at Lozeau Creek near Ronan, Montana. The album gives a fascinating and intimate life adventure of early 20th century Park County, Wyoming ranch families. Other photographs are: 1). Carter Ranch Barn – 1911 built by Scott Lyall 2). Carter Ranch House – built about 1880 3). Cattle on leased state land. 4). S.(cott)) T. Lyall Ranch at Irma Flat. 5). Norquist Ranch (1906) 6). Photo of Scott T.
