This is the first biography of Clarence King who was a legend in his lifetime. Among his many scientific accomplishments was also his bold mountain-climbing for the California Survey in 1863-1866 and his pioneering work as first director of the U. S. Geological Survey. Light wear to the fore-edges of the last two pages else a very good copy in a price-clipped dust jacket with moderate wear to the spine ends and corners with nicks and small closed tears to the extremities.
