Publication: Nixon-Jones Printing Co, 1893, St Louis

First edition. 8vo. Original blind stamped cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, 335 pp., preface, illustrated, frontispiece (portrait of R. M. Collins). Lt. Collins was born in East Tennessee and moved to Texas, settling in Decatur. Early in 1862, he joined the Confederate Army and rose to the rank of lieutenant in Company B, 15th Texas Cavalry, Granbury's Brigade, Cleburne's Division. He fought at Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Nashville, etc. Collin's narrative is an especially good one, well-written, and informative. He was an excellent observer. In Tall Cotton 25: "A readable and authentic account of service in the western theater of war by a lieutenant of the 15th Texas Infantry." Cloth lightly rubbed, some light soiling to the text block fore-edges, front and rear endpapers have been replaced (but some time ago), and minor wear to the head of spine, else a very good, tight copy.
