First edition. 8vo. Words "Review Copy" boldly written on the front free fly leaf. Dark blue cloth with decorative, metallic corner protectors, with titles stamped in gilt on the spine, xxxii, 179 pp., frontispiece [picture of Benteen], foreword, introduction, illustrated, portraits, bibliography, index. With an introduction by Karol Asay. Also Includes a psychological evaluation of Benteen by psychologist Dr. Rand B. Evans, Professor and Head, Department of Psychology, Texas A & M University, that is very interesting. This is a book of letters (some quite interesting!) between Benteen and his wife Kate, to whom he was most loyal and dedicated. Minor ghosting to a small portion of the front pastedown sheet and the front flap fold of the dust jacket, else a fine copy in dust jacket with minor wear to the head of spine and a tiny closed tear to the top edge of the front cover panel. An uncommon title that belongs in any Custeriana collection.
