The eldest of 5 brothers, all involved in the Western fur trade, Bill Sublette was a contemporary of Jedediah Smith, Jim Bridger, Hugh Glass, Thomas Fitzpatrick, William Ashley, etc., and equally deserving of recognition for his role in the exploration and fur trade development of the American West.
