First edition. Original printed pictorial wrappers. First state, per Yost and Renner 37, red printing on green wrappers. [4], 56 pp. Quarto. Illustrated with 14 full-page plates by Russell. The first edition in book form of 14 newspaper pieces which had appeared in the Sunday editions of papers from the Syndicate, each dealing with a topic or incident in Western history: Kit Carson, Yellowstone Kelly, The Pony Express, The Fetterman Disaster, The Wagon Box Fight, Chief Joseph, The Texas Trail, etc... A true Russell rarity. Modest wear to edges of oversized wrappers, else a near fine copy in a custom clamshell box with titles stamped in red on front cover and spine.
