First edition. 8vo. Cloth, xvi, 432pp., numerous illustrations from old photographs. The much-sought and thoroughly-researched biography of Al Sieber. Born in Germany, Sieber served for the Union during the Civil War, and visited California and Nevada before coming to Arizona in 1868. Sieber joined General Crook as a packer in 1871 and quickly became Crook's "chief of scouts". He served in this capacity throughout the many years of conflict between the U.S. Army and the Apaches. Much information about General Crook, General Miles, John Clum, Tom Horn, Mickey Free, the Apache Kid, as well as Geronimo, Nana, Chato, Loco, and other Apache warriors. Six Guns 2208 says, "Contains two chapters on the Apache Kid and some scattered material on Tom Horn." An outstanding work. An exceptionally fine, bright copy in dust jacket. Signed by Thrapp on front free-endpaper.
