Publication: Austin: Press of Von Boeckmann-Jones Co, 1928,

First edition. 8vo. Printed wrappers, 64 pp., frontis., illustrated from photographs. Photographs by Mrs. M. C. Ragsdale taken in 1878 at the Ranger Camp on the San Saba River, four miles from Fort McKavett. The author was the wife of Captain D. W. Roberts of Company D, Texas Frontier Battalion, who was the author of RANGERS AND SOVEREIGNTY, published in 1914. The author recounts her experiences in camp, and her experiences with outlaws as well as some of her husband's encounters with outlaws, feudists, and others. Dobie says "Mrs. Roberts was a sensible and charming woman with a seeing eye." Basic Texas Books 172 says "An essential companion work to RANGERS AND SOVEREIGNTY is the small book by his wife, Lucvenia (Conway) Roberts, A WOMAN'S REMINISCENCES OF SIX YEARS IN CAMP WITH THE TEXASRANGERS (Austin: Press of Von Boeckmann-Jones Co., 1928). Known as the 'Assistant Commander' of Company D, she was in the field with her husband during most of his time of service. Her memoirs are full of incidents of tent life in West Texas, and include some excellent photographs of the Rangers in the field and in camp." Six Guns 1871 says "The author tells about some of her husband's encounters with outlaws and feudists." Some tanning to edges and a crease to lower fore-corner. A very good copy housed in a custom four-point cloth folding case with author stamped in gold on the spine.
