A Souvenir Booklet Of Greeting And Information From The People Of Littlerock And The Pear Belt, In Northern Los Angeles County, California, To The Guests At Our Annual Pear Day Festival, August 2, 1919

Publication: Post Print, 1919, Palmdale

First edition. 21" x 6" white sheet, folded to 12 panels. Printed in blue. Photographic illustration on rear panel showing pear orchard as well as pictorial illustration of flying birds. Scarce promotional piece for the second Pear Day Festival, which was organized by the Littlerock Creek Irrigation District to encourage investment in the District and nearby Palmdale: “Figures have been compiled by an officer of the Antelope Valley Chamber of Commerce showing (as to the groves embraced in the comparison) that a normal Bartlett pear grove in Littlerock is a better money maker than a normal orange grove south of the Sierra Madre range.” Formed in 1892, the Littlerock Creek Irrigation District initially consisted of 25 property owners and comprised 2,200 acres. Peach, pear, and almond production continued to increase in the decades that followed, and so did the demand for water. In response, the District partnered with the Palmdale Irrigation District to build the Littlerock Dam, a concrete gravity dam completed in 1924. The outer panels are a bit toned; otherwise very good. Scarce.
